First-Year Associates

Employment for first-year associates begins upon graduation from law school. We offer competitive salaries, bar registration expenses, and personal computers for all associates. Additional benefits include health insurance, 401(k) and retirement plans, profit-sharing, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, vacation plus holidays, and bonus program eligibility.

Laterals

Harris Beach has fostered significant growth through hiring new attorneys, merging practices with several firms, and expanding our practice from within. Due to our rapid growth, we have an ongoing interest in recruiting attorneys experienced in any area of law for any of our office locations. Our attorneys have established the firm’s reputation for responsiveness, attention to detail, and considerate treatment and handling of client matters. Lateral candidates are considered based on these same qualities.
Candidates must be admitted or soon be admitted to the Bar in the state(s) in which they plan to practice and have strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills. Exemplary candidates are those that thrive in an environment where ideas, ingenuity, and intelligence are highly valued.

What It Takes (to Become a Harris Beach Attorney)
Harris Beach attorneys are very highly motivated individuals with excellent communication and time management skills, a strong work ethic, top credentials, and strong academic backgrounds. Harris Beach attorneys enjoy diversity in their caseloads and are adept at multitasking. Strong attorney candidates are actively involved in the community and have interests outside of the legal field. Summer, first-year, and lateral associates are considered based on these qualities. A hiring committee, comprised of eight Harris Beach attorneys and our manager of legal recruitment and training, oversees the hiring process for all legal positions. Paralegals

Assembling the right team to handle client matters is absolutely essential to making our legal services cost-effective to our clients. We are particularly selective in our consideration of paralegals and legal assistants. Our attorneys rely on paralegals and frequently delegate tasks that will free them to concentrate on substantive legal issues and complex client matters. As with our attorneys, we apply the same high standards of strong academic backgrounds, solid experience, and multi-tasking abilities to our selection of paralegals. And with our diverse practice, paralegals can be assured that they will find their professional experiences with Harris Beach to be both challenging and rewarding. Program for Summer Associates

Our summer associate program offers law school students a chance to get to know the culture and “work life” of Harris Beach. Participants will tackle interesting and varied work assignments in the firm’s practice and industry groups. Opportunities for interaction with clients, and observation of court and administrative tribunals, are provided whenever possible. A variety of social events will introduce participants to partners and associates in a fun and informal setting. Summer associates have the benefit of individual, non-evaluative mentors who offer valuable practical suggestions and friendly, experienced guidance. Work product is evaluated throughout the summer, and substantive feedback is provided on a regular basis. Scholarship Opportunities

We are seeking candidates who will make a meaningful contribution to the diversity of our firm and the legal community, and who can demonstrate a strong desire to work, live, and practice law in New York state. Recipients will be offered an opportunity to participate in the Harris Beach law student summer program and be considered for an offer of employment upon graduation.
