Scott D. Piper of Brighton, founding partner of Piper Schultz LLP, has merged his labor and employment law practice with Harris Beach. He joins Harris Beach as a partner in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group. Mr. Piper has more than a decade’s experience in all areas of labor law, employment litigation and counseling. He regularly counsels and represents employers in the wide range of labor and employment law matters, from complex employment class action lawsuits to litigation involving all types of workplace disputes such as claims of unlawful termination, discrimination, harassment, and unpaid wages or benefits. In addition, he regularly represents employers before all types of administrative agencies including the New York and United States Departments of Labor, the EEOC, the New York State Division of Human Rights, the OFCCP, OSHA, and the NLRB. His practice also includes preparing and negotiating separation packages and advising on contractual issues such as employment agreements and non-compete agreements. Prior to forming his own firm, Mr. Piper was the in-house labor and employment counsel for Paychex, Inc. Before joining Paychex, he practiced law at Harris Beach in the Labor & Employment Law Practice Group. Mr. Piper began his career in Atlanta, Georgia, at one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, Fisher & Phillips LLP. Mr. Piper has recently served as a Special Master for the United States District Court for the Western District of New York, and is a mediator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He is also the former chair of the Disability, Labor and Employment Section of the Monroe County Bar Association, and serves on several area boards, including the YMCA of Greater Rochester and St. Paul’s Day Care Center. Mr. Piper obtained his JD, with honors, from the University of Florida School of Law and BA, summa cum laude, from the University of North Florida.
