Ms. Laremont is a member of the firm. She practices in the Public Finance and Economic Development, the Commercial Real Estate, and the Construction and Surety Law Practice Groups and serves on the Real Estate Developers and the Municipalities and Quasi Governmental Agencies Industry Teams. Ms. Laremont provides 21 years senior law department leadership experience and more than 30 years progressive corporate law experience, including major real estate projects, corporate governance, land use and environmental, debt financing, affordable housing, employment law, general commercial, and government relations. Ms. Laremont served as general counsel to the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), where she directed restructuring and consolidation of economic development authorities; supervised all aspects of legal work, including serving as counsel and advisor to boards of directors and officers of ESDC and affiliated entities; delivered legal services to ESDC, its affiliates and subsidiaries, and managed the legal department; oversaw the provision of legal services related to grant and loan programs; directed all legal aspects of large-scale development projects, including 42nd Street Development, Queens West Development, Javits Expansion, Atlantic Yards Development and Columbia University Manhattanville Expansion; served as in-house counsel for debt issuance ($11.0 billion in state-supported bonds outstanding), including selecting and supervising bond and tax counsel; directed the establishment of programs to provide post-9/11 assistance to businesses and created the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, a subsidiary dedicated to the redevelopment of downtown Manhattan; initiated and implemented corporate governance reforms, including lecturing directors of public authorities throughout New York state on governance and ethical requirements; selected and supervised outside counsel; and developed legislation, and negotiated with local, state and federal lawmakers.
Ms. Laremont served as ESDC’s deputy general counsel from 1989-1995 and as a senior counsel from 1982-1989. She began her legal career with a New York City law firm.
Professional & Community Activities
Ms.Laremont is a member of the American, New York State and City of New York Bar Associations, as well as a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel. She is a trustee of the Citizens Budget Commission. She is a past member of the New York City Bar Association’s Real Property Law Committee and Committee on Minorities in the Profession. Ms. Laremont is a member of the Staten Island Academy Board of Trustees and the Jewish Community Center of Staten Island Advisory Council.
