Mr. Maas is a member of the firm, co-leader of the Construction and Surety Law Practice Group, and practices in the Business and Commercial Litigation Practice Group and is a member of the Educational Institutions Industry Team. Selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America, He focuses his legal practice on construction and surety law, contract law, public bidding and municipal contracts. He represents public and private sector property owners in construction disputes and in negotiating contracts with architects, engineers and building contractors. In addition, Mr. Maas defends surety companies against claims made by owners, subcontractors and suppliers against performance and labor and material payment bonds. He also handles prosecution and defense of all construction related and lien law claims.
Prior to rejoining Harris Beach in 2001, Mr. Maas served as senior counsel and vice president to Frontier Insurance Company where he was responsible for overseeing all of Frontier’s surety bond claims and related litigation throughout the United States.
Mr. Maas has also been in private practice in Chicago, where he handled surety defense and construction law matters. After leaving Chicago in 1979, he was an attorney with the Monroe County Department of Law for five years. In addition to Monroe County construction matters, he was involved in municipal public bidding matters, contract drafting, and negotiation.

Mr. Maas is a past member of the American, New York State and Monroe County Bar Associations. Mr. Maas published, in 2008, “Analyzing and Strategizing Construction Disputes,” a chapter in Inside the Minds; Negotiating Construction Law Disputes, an Aspatore books,Thompson business publication.
