Mr. Martin is a member of the firm. He practices in the Insurance Litigation and Product Liability Defense and Family Law Practice Groups. He is an experienced trial attorney with extensive commercial, civil and criminal litigation experience. He has also handled appeals before the New York State Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. Selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America, Mr. Martin has represented a broad range of clients in a variety of commercial and civil litigation, including personal injury defense and insurance defense. He is also experienced handling New York State Supreme Court matrimonial and family law matters. Mr. Martin’s current trial caseload is centered on insurance defense and complex commercial litigation.
Mr. Martin has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Syracuse University College of Law since the mid-1980s, teaching in the disciplines of civil trial advocacy and criminal law.
From 1969 through 1974, Mr. Martin served as an officer in the United States Air Force, Judge Advocate General Corps, defending court martial cases throughout the Asian Pacific area. Mr. Martin was co-founder and senior litigation partner of the Syracuse-based law firm Martin, Martin & Woodard LLC which merged with Harris Beach in 2004.
Professional & Community Activities
Mr. Martin is a member of the American, New York State, and Onondaga County Bar Associations, and serves as a lecturer for continuing legal education with the New York State Bar Association. He served as senior editor of the Syracuse Law Review.
Mr. Martin is actively involved in a variety of community and civic organizations. He is a member of the United Way's Finance Committee and Investment Committee, and previously served as treasurer of the United Way of Central New York. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Syracuse Community Health Center Foundation and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Museum of Science & Technology.
