James P. Nonkes
Associate

Mr. Nonkes is an associate of the firm and practices in the Business and Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property Law Practice Groups.  He also serves on the Automotive and Vehicles Industry Team.  Mr. Nonkes has individually handled and worked with teams on complex state and federal cases for a variety of clients, including national companies as well as local businesses.  Mr. Nonkes has worked on a range of issues from “bet the company” contract disputes to smaller-scale “slip and fall” cases.  Mr. Nonkes has also represented municipalities in a range of litigation matters from disputes over water sewage treatment to civil enforcement of tax laws.  Mr. Nonkes has drafted successful motions to dismiss and for summary judgment, participated in formal and informal negotiations, taken and defended several depositions, argued motions before state and federal court judges, and individually taken a case through bench trial to a successful outcome.

Prior to joining Harris Beach, Mr. Nonkes was a litigation associate in the New York City office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Professional & Community Activities

Mr. Nonkes is a member of the Monroe County Bar Association.  He is a board member of the Norman Howard School, an independent, state approved, school for children with learning disabilities.  Mr. Nonkes is also a member of the firm’s Rochester office Community Involvement Committee, which assists in organizing and fostering attorney and administrative personnel participation in community-related and charitable events.
