Judge Nelson H. Cosgrove
Of Counsel

Judge Cosgrove is senior counsel to the firm.  He practices in the Business and Commercial Litigation Practice Group.  Prior to joining the firm, he served a 14-year term (1991- 2004) as New York State Supreme Court Justice for the 8th Judicial District, Erie County.  During his tenure, Judge Cosgrove presided over trial terms throughout the western New York area and New York City.  His experience includes felony criminal trials, medical malpractice, labor law and product liability cases. 

From 1977-1990, Judge Cosgrove was a named partner in a West Seneca law firm and focused his law practice on personal injury, criminal defense, and civil and criminal jury trials.  From 1978-1990 he also served as town justice for the Town of West Seneca.  

Professional & Community Activities

Judge Cosgrove is a member of the Erie County Bar Association.  He is also director and former president of the West Seneca Rotary; a director, coach and member of the West Seneca Youth Soccer Association; and former vice chairman of the West Seneca Democratic Committee. 

Formerly, Judge Cosgrove served as director of the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association, director of the SUNY at Buffalo School of Law Alumni Association, secretary and vice chairman of the Board of Trustees of Medaille College, and as chairman of the Board’s Academic Affairs Committee.  Judge Cosgrove also served on the Board of Trustees of Trocaire College and Mount Mercy Academy.
