Patrick J. Berrigan

Mr. Berrigan is of counsel to the firm. He practices in the Labor and Employment Law and Litigation, Business and Commercial Litigation, and Corporate Practice Groups. He represents clients in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. Prior to joining Harris Beach, Mr. Berrigan was a named partner in a Niagara Falls law firm which he helped to establish in 1978. Until 1978, he was a partner in the law firm of Runals, Broderick, Shoemaker, Rickert, Berrigan & Doherty, joining that firm in 1959. Early in his legal career, he served as counsel to the New York State Assembly Committee on Mortgages and Real Estate. From 1970-1972, Mr. Berrigan served as assistant counsel to then New York Senate Majority Leader Earl W. Brydges. In 1972, Mr. Berrigan was appointed by the Niagara Falls City Council as special investigator to investigate rumored police department corruption. Two years later, he was appointed special district attorney to investigate Niagara County insurance practices and prosecuted cases that arose from that investigation. Mr. Berrigan was the first attorney appointed to represent all attorneys in the Fourth Judicial Department as an attorney member of the Judicial Conference of the State of New York from 1978-1980. Mr. Berrigan has been serving as a hearing officer of the New York Commission on Judiciary since 1988.
Professional & Community Activities
Mr. Berrigan is a member of the American, New York State, Niagara County, and Niagara Falls Bar Associations. He served as president of the Niagara Falls Bar Association in 1972. Mr. Berrigan is a member of the Executive Committee, chair of the Audit and Financial Committee and vice-chair of the Board of Governors of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital. He is a former board member of Health Systems Niagara, the Niagara University Advisory Board, and the Niagara Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Mr. Berrigan is a former vice-president of the Niagara Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
