Peter J. Spinelli

Mr. Spinelli is a member of the firm and practices in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group. He also serves on the Fire Protection/EMS Provider Services Industry Team. Mr. Spinelli counsels employers in both the public and private sectors. He represents school districts and other municipal clients in all areas of employee relations, including negotiations, improper practice proceedings, representation matters, student and employee discipline, teacher tenure and certification issues. He also has extensive experience in labor arbitration and contract administration.

Mr. Spinelli also represents private employers in health care, broadcast, manufacturing, retail and trade, and service industries in all areas of labor relations, including union organization, employment discrimination, unfair labor practices, wage and hour issues, OSHA regulations, collective bargaining, personnel management and contract administration.

Professional & Community Activities

From January 1996 until June 2001, Mr. Spinelli served as the attorney for the Town of Pittsford, NY where he continues as special counsel. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and its Labor and Employment Law Section and has been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America.

In 1988, Mr. Spinelli served as an editor for "Public Employment Law," a book published by the New York State Bar Association. He was also an editor for the first supplement published in 1991. He was an adjunct instructor for Cornell Law School and remains an active lecturer on topics related to employment law. Mr. Spinelli has delivered lectures for the New York State School Boards Association, the New York Bar Association, the Public Employment Relations Board, the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the Council of Educational Administration of Schools for the Deaf.

Mr. Spinelli is a member of the Human Resource Committee of the Greater Rochester YMCA. He is active in Republican politics and served as the chairman/leader of the Pittsford Town Committee from 1980 to 1983, and again in 1992. Mr. Spinelli is also active in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester and was a member of the Board of Education for seven years and served two terms as its chairman. He was also chairman of the Christian Formation and Education Council and served on the Bishop's Stewardship Council. Since 1998, Mr. Spinelli has served as chairman of the Steering Committee for the Pittsford-Mendon Catholic Communities, a planning group for three parishes on the east side of Monroe County. While in law school, he received the Order of the Coif and served as Chancellor of the Moot Court Board. He also earned certification to teach French while in college.
