Steven P. Nonkes
Associate
Mr. Nonkes is an associate of the firm. He practices in the Business and Commercial Litigation, Construction and Surety Law, and Intellectual Property Law Practice Groups. He focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade dress infringement actions. Mr. Nonkes has an electrical engineering background. Prior to entering law school, he held engineering positions at Northrup Grumman Corporation, Corvis Corporation, and Xerox Corporation. His work at Xerox focused on experimental methods of detecting microscopic defects in photo-sensitive chemical films and led to his being a named co-inventor on five U.S. patents. At Corvis, he designed electrical and optical systems for use as part of long-distance fiber optic networks. At Northrop Grumman, Mr. Nonkes developed software for operating radar jamming systems.
Mr. Nonkes has worked on a variety of intellectual property matters, including patent, copyright, and trademark litigation, as well as patent and copyright assignments and licensing agreements. Specific issues he has worked on include post-trial motions for enhanced damages for willful patent infringement, petitions opposing trademark registration, trademark cancellation petitions, and a variety of discovery-related issues. Mr. Nonkes has also worked on general litigation matters including state-court appeals, construction contract disputes, and business contract disputes. Mr. Nonkes has litigated OSHA citations and advises clients on compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards.
Mr. Nonkes regularly practices in New York State courts and has appeared before the International Trade Commission, the Occupational Safety & Health Review Commission, and the Mine Safety & Health Review Commission.
