Dr. Schneiderman is a member of the firm, the Intellectual Property Practice Group, and co-leader of the Nanotechnology Industry Team. She also serves on the Medical and Life Sciences, Science and Technology, the Photonics and the Food and Beverage Industry Teams. A biologist as well as a patent attorney, Dr. Schneiderman’s practice focuses on domestic and foreign patent procurement, opinion work and strategic planning, representing high technology clients in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, medical devices, environmental chemistry and agriscience. She prosecutes patent and trademark applications in a wide range of technologies such as molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, immunology, cancer biology, pharmacology, cell biology, developmental biology, microbiology, environmental physiology and chemistry, textile chemistry, industrial enzymes, small molecule pharmaceuticals and formulations, recombinant vaccines and drugs, medical monitors, micro- and nanoscale diagnostic systems, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, plant patents, and plant variety protection rights. Dr. Schneiderman had a 20-year career as an academic research scientist and professor prior to practicing law. Her training in science (B.S. in biological sciences and Ph.D. in neurobiology) and law allows her to work closely with scientists, inventors and management teams in developing ideas into patentable inventions.
Dr. Schneiderman currently oversees the worldwide patent prosecution of numerous inventions for academic and high technology clients and their licensees. In addition to formulating prosecution strategies for her clients’ inventions, Dr. Schneiderman is routinely engaged to perform intellectual property analyses such as performing due diligence evaluations and patent landscape analyses; analyzing potentially competing products and patents; and performing related art surveys in connection with drafting claims for patent applications directed to platform technologies.
Prior to joining Harris Beach, Dr. Schneiderman was in private practice in Syracuse and Ithaca, New York and served as in-house legal and patent counsel for Advanced Design Consulting USA, Inc., a high technology engineering design consulting company in Lansing, New York. Prior to that, Dr. Schneiderman worked for six years in the biotechnology practice group of Pennie & Edmonds LLP. She practiced in the firm’s Silicon Valley and Manhattan offices, handling patent procurement, prosecution and counseling in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Prior to practicing law, Dr. Schneiderman was a developmental neurobiologist with academic appointments at Cornell University and Yale University.
Dr. Schneiderman has been selected for inclusion each year in Who's Who in America (since 2006), Who's Who in American Law (since 2007), and Who's Who in Science and Engineering (since 2007).
PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Dr. Schneiderman is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), MedTech, the Tompkins County Bar Association, and the Upstate Venture Association of New York (UVANY). Dr. Schneiderman has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of MedTech (2013-2014) and of the SPCA of Tompkins County (2014-current).
