When it came time to consider ways to expand his career as an energy and environmental lawyer, Partner Jeff Kuhn knew what he was looking for: A quadruple threat.
New York was accelerating implementation of its ambitious Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. The CLCPA sets forth an aggressive set of goals to transform the state’s energy grid – such as generating 70% of the state’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030, and 100% zero-emission electricity by 2040.
The CLCPA, he says, is New York’s “climate moonshot,” which requires huge investments in and development of wind and solar generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure. Each of those four pillars requires attorneys who can guide clients through regulatory and business challenges involving siting, permitting, construction, and interconnection to name a few.
In framing the changing nature of the market that way, Kuhn’s attention focused on Harris Beach. In this episode of the Harris Beach Podcast, Jeff elaborates on why he decided to become a partner in the firm’s Capital Region offices in March 2022. He also gives a concise summary of the CLCPA and how he and his new team are working together to help clients capture the opportunities.
