Nurses are critical caregivers and make up the largest section of the health profession. Even with nearly 4 million nurses in the United States, a persistent shortage threatens the industry. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates more than 275,000 additional nurses are needed from 2020 to 2030 and employment opportunities are projected to grow at a faster rate than all other occupations. Is immigration a possible answer to the shortage? The federal government would need to make changes.
