Caetra.io, a provider of governance, risk and legal compliance (GRC) software, has been recognized at Legalweek New York 2022 for precedent-setting, game-changing innovation in data privacy and cybersecurity compliance.
The company received a Leader in Tech Award during Legalweek for its CyMetric cloud-based software, which streamlines the process of building, deploying, updating and assessing cyber and data privacy programs. Legalweek is a technology-focused conference organized by ALM, which produces Corporate Counsel, Law.com, Legaltech News, the National Law Journal, the New York Law Journal and other leading legal industry publications.
CyMetric is unique in that it integrates the provisions of specific laws and frameworks, such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the NIST CSF, into the software to distill regulations into compliant controls and policies that fit organizational tolerance for risk.
“Technology is creating unique opportunities to evolve the practice of law by introducing more efficient ways of delivering legal services,” said Alan Winchester, partner, Harris Beach, and Caetra’s founder and chief development officer. “Recognizing the mounting challenges our clients were facing in complying with emerging regulations, our partners decided on a different approach: to create a subsidiary to develop software that delivers policies, controls and regulatory analysis, generated by lawyers, at a fraction of the cost of traditional compliance programs.”
“We are honored that the Legalweek judges, both from law and technology, saw our solution as an outstanding contribution to the legal technology landscape in cybersecurity and data privacy,” said Michael Compisi, president and general manager, Caetra.io. “Our customers see it too. CyMetric has been licensed by several hundred public and private entities, with interest from defense, healthcare, education, law and other industries with needs to protect critical infrastructure.”
CyMetric was introduced in 2019. It currently maps major data privacy regulations including GDPR, the New York Shield Act, HIPAA, CCPA, and CMMC, as well as industry-standard security and privacy frameworks.
The passage of New York State Education Law 2D, which put new requirements on school districts to protect the personally identifiable information of student information, sparked significant interest in CyMetric. New York Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) as well as individual school districts are among those with CyMetric licenses.
“School districts face significant challenges in data privacy given the understandable sensitivity around a student’s private information,” said Dr. Michelle M. Ryan, Shared Assistant Superintendent for Accountability, Assessment and Technology for Monroe One BOCES. “CyMetric has allowed us to ease the burden by automating the creation of the policies and controls we need to keep this information private. We congratulate Alan Winchester, Michael Compisi and the CyMetric team for receiving this recognition from Legalweek.”
This is the second year for Legalweek’s Leaders in Tech Law Awards. The winners were selected by an independent panel of leaders from the industry and announced at a dinner in New York on March 10.
