Experienced health care attorney Peter M. Hoffman is joining Harris Beach PLLC as a partner, based in the firm’s growing Long Island office.
He brings a wealth of experience working with institutional and individual health care providers and suppliers in creating and implementing compliance programs, defending payer audits, leading internal investigations, handling complex government investigations, working on self-disclosures to government agencies and private payers, and counseling clients on myriad health care compliance and regulatory issues they confront daily.
Peter represents clients on numerous matters involving the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the New York State Department of Health, and many other government agencies, commercial payers and private parties. He also regularly advises clients on sophisticated health care fraud and abuse issues, including those involving the federal and New York State Anti-kickback and “Stark” laws, as well as civil monetary penalties that arise in the course of both potential transactions and existing relationships.
A graduate of Albany Law School at Union University, Peter started his career working for a prestigious law firm in Manhattan as a civil litigator and for a well-regarded white collar defense boutique. For the last 27 years, Peter has concentrated his practice on serving the health care industry.
Peter becomes the latest addition to the Harris Beach Health Care Industry Team, which represents health care organizations in matters including regulatory compliance, immigration, real estate, cybersecurity, labor and employment, financing, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, clinical operations and day-to-day general counsel.
Firm clients include large regional health systems, individual providers, long-term care providers, ambulatory surgery centers, addiction treatment providers, community-based providers and others; coordinating organizations including accountable care organizations, health homes and care coordination organizations; independent practice associations (IPA) and physician-hospital organizations (PHO); billing companies; and third-party payers.
