Joseph W. Schmidt, an intellectual property lawyer with extensive experience in patent preparation and prosecution, licensing, contracts, trademarks and copyrights, has joined Harris Beach PLLC as senior counsel.
Joseph has developed a healthcare and technology focus in his IP practice that includes the mechanical, biomechanical, electro-mechanical and electrical arts. He has extensive experience in the medical fields including orthopedics, orthopedic implants, spinal implants and associated instrumentation, spinal rod systems, laparoscopic instrumentation, catheter systems, stents and stent delivery systems, embolization devices, wound care, incontinence products, medical product packaging, heart valves, heart monitors, dialysis and other medical devices and conditions.
Earlier in his career, Joseph prepared and prosecuted multiple national and foreign applications directed to the innovative implantable Jarvik-7 artificial heart invented by Dr. Robert K. Jarvik.
Registered before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Joseph also has a broad IP practice with experience in matters surrounding computer software, cloud applications, blockchain technology, semiconductor manufacturing and business applications.
