Harris Beach Cannabis Industry Team co-leader Karl Sleight recently spoke to the Syracuse Post Standard and Albany Business Review on what’s next for businesses as New York state takes its next steps toward marijuana licensing processes.
Karl told the ABR there are things that most businesses should do now so that they’re prepared when directions are handed down. “We expect the application and regulatory process to be robust and just because the government hasn’t started the official process yet, we’re working with our clients to get them ready,” Sleight said. “In our view, there are a lot of things our clients can do to best position themselves to be a strong applicant once they’re reviewed.”
For example, Harris Beach is working with cannabis clients on due diligence, business formation, financial resources and integrity issues before the state’s rules come out.
In the Post Standard article Karl also discussed the progress New York state is making on licensing, within the context that tribal businesses are already moving ahead.
