Harris Beach has a strong community presence through local offices in New York, but we apply our capabilities across the state. Our clients recognize the value in our ability to draw upon our legal and consulting resources from across the firm, whether their needs require regional, national or international solutions.
Strength in Community
Harris Beach cares deeply about the Long Island region and all of the places where our attorneys and staff live and work. The vitality of our communities depends on the engagement of residents, the diversity of citizens and the support of organizations and institutions. Our attorneys take great pride in public service with one of our partners currently serving as the Mayor of the Incorporated Village of Malverne and two other partners previously serving as State Senator and Nassau County Attorney, respectively.
Our attorneys are routinely called upon to assist with state and local issues with partners being appointed by the New York State Governor, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and New York State Senate to various roles throughout government. To name a few, our office managing partner was appointed by the Chief Judge to serve on the Franklin H. Williams Commission, which advises the state on matters of racial justice and equity under law; one of our partners was appointed by the Governor to serve as a Commissioner of the New York State Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation Committee for the Long Island Region, overseeing all state parks in Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as managing and operating the Jones Beach Theatre; another partner serves as the Vice Chair of the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission, which is New York state’s first bipartisan Commission responsible for drawing our state’s district lines after the 2020 census.
Across Long Island, we have developed valued partnerships with not-for-profit organizations and cultural institutions and supported a wide range of initiatives and projects important to the community. Harris Beach is a long-time supporter of the Catholic Ministries Appeal, Mount Sinai South Nassau Communities Hospital, Nassau University Medical Center, as well as the Long Island Association, United Way of Long Island and Bethany House.
Community caring requires active engagement. Our most valuable resource at Harris Beach is our people, and we believe our communities benefit when tapping into that resource. Our attorneys and staff serve on committees and on the boards of directors for corporations, hospitals, museums, shelters and other institutions and professional associations, such as the Nassau County Village Officials Association, Huntington Lawyers Club, Malverne Historic Society, the Henry J. Viscardi Center, the New York League of Conservation Voters and Museum and the State University of New York Maritime College Council.
We also support professional associations geared toward continuous knowledge sharing in the practice of law, including the Nassau County Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the State of New York Appellate Division's Independent Judicial Election Commission, the New York State Economic Development Commission and many others. Harris Beach attorneys also donate their time in service of the community through pro bono representation of clients, as we strongly believe in the justice system accessible to all.
