Heidi serves as the managing partner of the Rochester office. An experienced litigator, she represents hospitals, health care providers, nursing homes, residential treatment facilities, physician groups, licensed professionals, vendors and insurance companies in state court and before administrative panels and quasi-judicial tribunals.  Heidi advises healthcare organizations on federal and state compliance matters, governmental audits and investigations, risk management, patient privacy laws and cybersecurity, medical staff credentialing, professional disciplinary matters, medical ethics, telemedicine, institutional review boards, clinical trials and protection of human research subjects and day-to-day operational and contracting needs.

Heidi advises organizations of all types on developments within the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA), including cultivators and processors, retailers, and distributors. She also advises medical marijuana registered organizations in day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance, and clients on the expanded guidance for home-grown medical use marijuana.

Heidi provides statutory and regulatory compliance training seminars on a number of subjects, including HIPAA, guardianships, Mental Hygiene Law, end of life care and the Family Health Care Decisions Act.

Heidi is the editor and primary contributor to the firm’s NY Health Care Blog, dedicated to providing insight on issues facing the New York State health care industry.

  • Defended medical professionals and facilities before the New York Justice Center, Office of Professions and Office of Professional Medical Conduct in matters involving alleged professional misconduct.
  • Defended nursing homes in Department of Health Administrative Hearings regarding appropriateness of patient discharge and alleged regulatory deficiencies.
  • Advised hospitals in the drafting and revision of medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations.
  • Drafted policies and procedures following statutory enactments and amendments, including HIPAA/HITECH, Family Health Care Decisions Act, telemedicine, Non-profit Revitalization Act, medical marijuana, e-prescribing/I-STOP, among others.
  • Served as legal advisor to the Ethics Committees and Institutional Review Boards for some of the firm’s hospital clients.
  • Presented at various hospital Grand Rounds and at numerous seminars hosted by a variety of professional associations and not-for-profit organizations on matters involving HIPAA compliance, risk management, statutory compliance and medical ethics.

■ Profile

Heidi serves as the managing partner of the Rochester office. An experienced litigator, she represents hospitals, health care providers, nursing homes, residential treatment facilities, physician groups, licensed professionals, vendors and insurance companies in state court and before administrative panels and quasi-judicial tribunals.  Heidi advises healthcare organizations on federal and state compliance matters, governmental audits and investigations, risk management, patient privacy laws and cybersecurity, medical staff credentialing, professional disciplinary matters, medical ethics, telemedicine, institutional review boards, clinical trials and protection of human research subjects and day-to-day operational and contracting needs.

Heidi advises organizations of all types on developments within the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA), including cultivators and processors, retailers, and distributors. She also advises medical marijuana registered organizations in day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance, and clients on the expanded guidance for home-grown medical use marijuana.

Heidi provides statutory and regulatory compliance training seminars on a number of subjects, including HIPAA, guardianships, Mental Hygiene Law, end of life care and the Family Health Care Decisions Act.

Heidi is the editor and primary contributor to the firm’s NY Health Care Blog, dedicated to providing insight on issues facing the New York State health care industry.

  • Defended numerous medical malpractice and negligence defense cases.
  • Conducted hundreds of guardianship and civil commitment proceedings.
  • Defended medical professionals and facilities before the New York Justice Center, Office of Professions and Office of Professional Medical Conduct in matters involving alleged professional misconduct.
  • Defended nursing homes in Department of Health Administrative Hearings regarding appropriateness of patient discharge and alleged regulatory deficiencies.
  • Advised hospitals in the drafting and revision of medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations.
  • Drafted policies and procedures following statutory enactments and amendments, including HIPAA/HITECH, Family Health Care Decisions Act, telemedicine, Non-profit Revitalization Act, medical marijuana, e-prescribing/I-STOP, among others.
  • Served as legal advisor to the Ethics Committees and Institutional Review Boards for some of the firm’s hospital clients.
  • Presented at various hospital Grand Rounds and at numerous seminars hosted by a variety of professional associations and not-for-profit organizations on matters involving HIPAA compliance, risk management, statutory compliance and medical ethics.
