Kat represents clients in all matters germane to businesses, and has experience consulting on business ownership disputes, intellectual property (copyright, trademark, trade dress, trade secret), insurance defense and coverage, contract enforcement and interpretation, compliance with state and federal laws, including in the health care and education sectors, and negligence/risk management. Kat’s business background allows her to see beyond litigation, enabling her to work with clients to maximize their goals in and out of the courtroom.
Kat’s litigation practice includes all aspects of state and federal civil litigation at trial and appellate levels, and in arbitral fora. Litigation areas include commercial contract litigation, corporate dissolution, minority shareholder defense, defense of copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation claims, nursing home insurance defense (failure of care), healthcare contract disputes (including service contracts, and insurance reimbursement disputes), defending educational institutions in Article 78 proceedings, healthcare debt collection, and commercial lease disputes. Kat also has experience representing the interests of skilled nursing facilities in administrative hearings before regulatory agencies.
She earned a JD/MBA joint degree from by Union College and the Albany Law School, graduating cum laude from law school and with honors from business school. As an undergraduate, Kat was a double major in English and history at Stony Brook University and spent a semester at the Florence University of the Arts.
