Kat’s litigation practice includes all aspects of state and federal civil litigation at trial and appellate levels, and in arbitral fora. Kat has litigated matters relating to commercial contract disputes, corporate dissolutions, minority shareholder rights, commercial lease disputes defense of copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation claims, nursing home insurance defense (failure of care), healthcare contract disputes (including service contracts, and insurance reimbursement disputes), and defending educational institutions and municipalities in Article 78 proceedings. Kat also has experience representing the interests of skilled nursing facilities in administrative hearings before regulatory agencies, and in healthcare debt collection actions.
In addition to litigation, Kat has experience consulting small and large businesses on issues relating to ownership disputes, intellectual property rights and obligations (copyright, trademark, trade dress, trade secret), insurance coverage, contract enforcement and interpretation, compliance with state and federal laws, including in the healthcare and education sectors, and negligence/risk management. Kat’s business background allows her to see beyond litigation, to work with clients to maximize their goals inside and out of the courtroom.
Kat earned a JD/MBA joint degree from by Union College and the Albany Law School, graduating cum laude from law school and with honors from business school. As an undergraduate, Kat was a double major in English and History at Stony Brook University and spent a semester at the Florence University of the Arts in Florence, Italy.
